Dose assessment

Internationally accepted dose modelling methods are used to assess incremental radiation dose through inhalation, ingestion and external exposure pathways in the following scenarios:

• Public members exposed on a lifetime basis to radio-nuclides from existing mining operations, and from contaminated land through radon intrusion and external radiation.

• Public members exposed on a lifetime basis to radio-nuclide containing materials e.g. phosphogypsum or crushed waste rock used in building material or agriculture.

• Public members exposed on a lifetime basis to any NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) e.g in homes or public buildings.
